Pear-shaped jug with a faceted body at the foot. Coiled ribbon handle. Onion-shaped lid with broad faceting and broad lip. Gilt and tooled with a bird in a stylised floral composition.

Johann Friedrich Böttger developed hard stoneware in 1707 for Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. Initially produced in red and brown, the manufacture of stoneware was expanded to Dresden, Plauen, and Bayreuth.
